Step 1: Download Your Journal File
- Click the download link. Your file will usually download as a PDF, or as a ZIP folder containing a PDF.
- If your file downloads as a ZIP folder: locate it in your Downloads folder, then double-click it (on a computer) or tap it and choose "Uncompress" or "Extract" (on a phone/tablet) to reveal the PDF inside.
- Save the PDF somewhere you can easily find it, such as your Files app (iPhone/iPad), Downloads folder, or Google Drive/Dropbox.
Tip: If nothing downloads when you click the link, try opening the email on the same device you plan to use for journaling (like your iPad), since some notes apps make it easiest to import files directly from that device.
Step 2: Choose Your Notes App
Your journal PDF works with any app that lets you import and write on PDFs. Some of the most popular options are:
- GoodNotes (iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Windows)
- Notability (iOS, iPadOS, macOS)
- Noteshelf (iOS, iPadOS, Android)
- Samsung Notes (Android/Samsung devices)
- Xodo or Adobe Acrobat Reader (iOS, Android, Windows, Mac—great free options)
Don't have one yet? GoodNotes and Notability are the two most popular for digital journaling, and both offer free trials or free versions with core features.
Step 3: Import Your Journal
Option A: GoodNotes
- Open GoodNotes and go to your document library.
- Tap the "+" (New) button and choose "Import".
- Locate your journal PDF (from Files, Drive, Dropbox, etc.) and select it.
- Choose "Import as a new document"—this keeps all pages and hyperlinked tabs working correctly.
- Your journal will open, ready for you to write on with your finger or stylus.
Option B: Notability
- Open Notability and tap the "+" button to create a new note.
- Tap the import icon (usually a paperclip or download icon in the toolbar).
- Select "Document", then choose your journal PDF from Files, Drive, or Dropbox.
- The journal will import as the background of your note—you can now write directly on each page.
Option C: Noteshelf, Samsung Notes, Xodo, or Similar Apps
- Open the app and look for an "Import," "Add," or "+" button, usually on the home screen or library view.
- Choose to import a PDF or document from your files.
- Select your journal PDF file.
- The journal will open as an editable document you can write on.
Tip: If your journal includes clickable tabs or a linked table of contents, always import it as a full document (not "insert as image" or "insert as pages") so the links stay active.
Step 4: Start Journaling!
- Use your finger or a stylus to write directly on the pages.
- Use the app's pen, highlighter, and text tools to customise your entries.
- If your journal has tabs or a table of contents, tap them to jump straight to that section.
- Your entries save automatically within the app, just like a regular note.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use this on my phone instead of a tablet?
Yes! All of the apps above work on phones too, though most people find a tablet more comfortable for handwriting.
What if I lose my download link?
Check your order confirmation email, or log into your account on our store and visit your order history to re-access your download. Your link allows up to 5 downloads and expires 30 days after purchase. Please save your file somewhere safe.
The pages look blank or blurry after importing.
This usually means the file was imported as an "image" rather than a "document." Delete the note and re-import using the "Import as document" or "Import as new note" option instead.
